Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I did a short review of the material she covered in class. Though we were not able to move on significantly ahead of the material covered in class, we did go over all the key concepts her professor covered as well with an additional topic or two that was to come in lecture. We proceeded to do a good number of practice problems from her textbook, which solidified her foundations and applications of the material. Though we were not able to cover all the practice problems at the end of the chapter, we did cover the main conceptual problems as well as a few calculation problems. There were some questions she had with her homework after our session was over, but she was able to send me an email with those questions and I scanned over detailed solutions to those problems."
"Today, the student and I worked on more factoring, and graphing of inequalities. Once we got in the groove of things, he started doing really well."
"Student does well when given mathematical problems to solve, but she will need continued practice when formulating sentences for answers in English. We went through the topics that she will be tested on and she has a good handle on the basics and Mayan/Roman numerals. We spent the majority of our time looking to find clues in the way questions are worded to help her understand them."
"We covered percentages for the most part, and I got a good feel for her ability. Long division came into play a few times as we needed to cross-multiply and divide, and I showed her how to write her work a little differently, so she wouldn't continue making minor decimal place errors. There were a few problems that she found challenging, but I modeled similar ones until she could complete all the book and workbook problems on her own. Overall, she's a quick learner, and a pleasure to work with."
"Today the student and I took a break from verbs to delve into common nouns. I prepared about 50 flash cards for us, and we went through them a couple of times. Following this, we spent the remainder of the session conversing in Spanish, stopping now and then to add a new word to our deck."
"We practiced the phrases we learned before and learned new phrases for making an opening speech at a presentation. The student uses visuals to get the sounds right. He will practice the new phrases and use translation software to test to see if he does it correctly."
