Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked through his conics section. I explained the equations for circles, hyperbolas, parabolas, ellipses, etc."
"Continued to use the law of sines, law of cosines, and other relationships to solve triangles. Worked through a problem set in preparation for an exam."
"We worked on preparing for a test. We reviewed the unit circle, how to use it, and how to find/place the important triangles within it. Then we discussed how to find the amplitude and the period of transformed trig functions."
"We went over the t, ANOVA, and chi-squared tests. The student reported another satisfactory assignment score. She has one more assignment and the final in two weeks. Next week's session will be our last."
"In the last session, the student and I went over his last test and homework. His last test was a great improvement over the quiz he had gotten back previously. He made a few mistakes, but overall he set up the problems properly and seemed to know what he was doing. Most of his mistakes were due to him missing a step or making an algebraic error. His homework was on simplifying radical expressions. We went over those problems and then also did more practice problems. Overall, the session went well."
"In this session the student and I worked on reviewing and studying for his upcoming midterm in math. We also worked on an enrichment assignment in history. Math is going pretty well, except that he tends to make small mistakes which lead to wrong answers. Awareness is what he needs to avoid these mistakes. Also, I coached him to be organized and use space when working out math problems so that his work doesn't get crowded, which makes it hard to read and follow. I also coached him to make his negative signs big and bold because one of his most common mistakes is to disregard negative signs. In history, his relative weakness is to not be able to spot the main ideas of the reading. So we discussed the reading before he formulated written responses."
