Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Yesterday Student 1 had an interview with the school he is applying to, which he felt good about. We did some reading comprehension practice and he showed good attention to detail. He also brought me an essay he wrote recently for school comparing and contrasting the values of determinism and free will. His teacher has been encouraging him to supplement commentary with concrete details when making his points, which I was pleased to hear as it reinforces the advice I've given him in our sessions. I tutored Student 2 for the second part of the session. He is doing well in more complicated math involving finding common multiples and simplifying fractions, and I got him to begin to show some work and explain his thought process a bit."
"Today we started by going over the sentences that the student wrote for homework. Then we focused on his weakest area which has been determined to be Reading Comprehension. Over the last 2 sessions before his exam we will focus on vocabulary words and reading comprehension, mainly passages and corresponding questions."
"Today went well. We stared by going through some different types of problems that she and I haven't worked through before, like the quantitative comparison questions and a very specific type of question called a "strange symbolism" question, which look confusing but turn out to be just about following directions. She did well; her main issues were still jumping to conclusions before double checking what the question was asking for. We ended with some essay prep and outline practice, which she handled beautifully. I talked to her about doing another diagnostic test, and she asked that we have one more session before she does another one, so I will send that over after the next session, then we can narrow our focus leading up to the exam date."
