Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over her lab worksheet relating to immunology. In this immunology section, we talked about the basic cell types (B, T, macrophage, etc.). We also focused on blood typing, which was a focus of the lab. She needed help understanding the concept of antigens/antibodies and how they relate to immunologic responses. We also reviewed questions in preparation for her upcoming test."
"Pathology class. Reviewed and discussed in detail the different glomerular and intrinsic renal diseases. Discussed acute versus chronic renal injury, the laboratory tests used for diagnosis, signs symptoms and treatment. Also discussed pathology and histology of many of the diseases and treatments. Great session!"
"The student and I spent our session talking about problem set #3. The topic was on plant growth hormones, plant structure, and pressures that affect cell flaccidity and turgidity. This question set was the most difficult so far, because it goes into great detail about plant physiology. He is not at the point yet where he understands every question, but once he attends lecture, we will get together again to work our issues out."
"We continued to review chapter 4. She had a quiz the following day, so I set up a practice quiz for her, and she did really well on it. I left her with some practice problems to do in the text book, which we will be going over Saturday."
"Reviewed sections on mitosis and meiosis in preparation for next test. Student shows improvement in explaining concepts."
"The student and I reviewed chapter 11 of his biology textbook, focusing on understanding the vocabulary words. We discussed Mendelian inheritance, genes, alleles, meiosis, genotype vs. phenotype, and different types of allelic dominance. I tested the student's understanding of the material by asking him the review questions at the end of each section. We began working on chapter 14 and will continue with it during our next session."
"Went over study guide for upcoming Evolutionary Biology test. Topics included reproductive tactics, evolutionary genetics, linkage equilibrium and other concepts covered in class."
"Today we finished up on meiosis and covered the circulatory system, the kidney and fungi. The student is doing very well and has found some good resources that have different diagrams, etc."
"- Reviewed definition of diffusion. - Osmosis as a type of diffusion in which water moves across a semi-permeable membrane towards a hypertonic solution (higher concentration of dissolved solutes). - Labeling of tables; use abbr. units in top row."
"Our first session--went over foundations of cell biology to clarify background knowledge then proceeded to discuss some more detailed topics."
"The student and I went over mitosis and meiosis today. I think she has a good understanding of both. We will meet again tomorrow to make sure she is fully prepared for her test."
"Went over bones for an upcoming exam that the student has. He felt very comfortable with the information. We plan to review again next week for his exam next Tuesday."
