Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student showed me her progress report. Math is her weakest subject right now due to a very low quiz score. She also said she experiences anxiety when testing in mathematics because there is no clock and she does not know how much time she has left. I recommended having her teacher put a posting on the board to say how much time is left and a few other anxiety strategies. We then went over Spanish vocabulary, history flash cards, and went through her previous math quizzes correcting the errors. She realized her errors and really feels they were made because she was rushing."
"The student and I looked at the essay portion of the writing section. We reviewed his practice essay and I went over some tips/advice for writing with more varied vocabulary and sentence structure. We also briefly went over the reading passage section and the math section. I advised him to work on the essay section a few times over the rest of his holiday break before our next session."
"We covered graphing linear equations, writing inverse functions, graphing inverse functions, calculating kinetic energy during collisions, and identifying different types of collisions. We reviewed the Algebra II homework and studied for an upcoming physics quiz."
"Worked with the student on reading and spelling. He seems to be getting much more confident when it comes to reading, and actually seems to have quite a bit more interest in it than when we first started reading together. As for spelling, I worked with him on -sion/-tion words, as well as -ness words."
"We reviewed practice questions in verbal and quantitative reasoning as well as math and reading. His strength was sentence completion and algebra. He showed improvement in reading comprehension and working with systems of equations."
"Continued to cover the time period leading up to the US Civil War. Put together a game plan regarding the next session we have. I would like for the student to continue to study the map and the President and the quotes. We will also cover the remaining 10 pages of text we have left and then review any other material that she would like in preparation for her test."
