"The student and I continued working on the chain rule, as well as derivatives of logarithms; he picked up the log derivative very quickly, but he seemed a little rusty on the chain rule material. He and I then practiced solving radical equations and checking for extraneous solutions; he had the concept down right away, with his only mistakes being arithmetic."
"We started out covering chain rule problems, specifically problems that require using the chain rule twice. We also covered a problem using average velocity and position functions. The last thing we covered was determining if a function is differentiable at a certain point."
"This was my first meeting with the student. We covered about half of her exam review, with the understanding that the remainder will be discussed when we meet on Wednesday. We will pay particular attention to the true/false portion, which produced the trickiest problem today."
"The student and I covered the meaning of the second derivative and what it can tell you about a function, such as when it is concave up or concave down. We also covered how to find the inflection points for a function, how to find when a function is increasing or decreasing, and how to find local maximums and local minimums for a function. Also covered was the concavity test. He is still struggling with how to interpret the first and second derivatives, but I think this session and his homework assignment really helped clarify those points for him. I did not leave any extra practice and have no concerns for this session."
"The student and I had a very productive session today. We started by going over the final few problems he had left in his assignment that dealt with graphing complex equations. He then identified that problems dealing with trig he wanted to review, so we spent the rest of the session going over some trigonometry basics and applying them to a practice problem he had done in class in order to strengthen the process. This was an extremely productive session. He has shown great improvement."
"Pretty solid progress today. Some of the integrals were slow to set up, but once we got started the student proceeded with evaluating them without much trouble."
