Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"During this session, the student and I worked on a paper he needs to write comparing and contrasting violence in Roman society and violent TV programming in today's society. It is a two page double spaced paper, and I helped him get started with the thesis and main points for the body paragraphs, as well as quotes to support his arguments. We got about one page written together, and I told him to try to get another page written by next time using the main points we had outlined. If he gets this done, I plan to edit the paper next time and go over it, then it should be ready for submission."
"The student and I covered some Algebra topics. Graphing, simplifying like terms, solving equations and PEMDAS. She did very well with solving equations, but needs some practice with simplifying like terms as well as PEMDAS. She has very strong Algebra skills, so I was impressed with a lot of her work today."
"The student and I looked at the question words and how to use them. We also practiced answering questions. We then categorized question words as dealing with time, quantity, people, places, or just questions in general. It seemed to go well. She is still struggling and needs to work on just memorizing them. but her attitude was much more positive toward the language. We are going to continue looking at question words and explore the difference between qué and cuál."
"The student and I went over her math homework. Her previous preparation for a test had gone well. We worked on word problems and how to "translate" English into mathematical equations simply so that lengthy word problems would not be confusing. We looked at the comments on the Fahrenheit 451 paper. We fixed any errors and also looked at what a teacher means when he or she uses certain editing marks."
"Last session with the student, we covered the states of matter, phase diagrams and changes, relating pressure and volume along with temperature. Further discussed nuclear chemistry and basic organic chemistry. Finally, did 2 sections of practice problems (15 questions and 25 questions, respectively) under timed conditions. "
"The student and I went over strengthen weaken question types that she has struggled with in the past. She did much better and is improving on the section as a whole. We also completed some reading comprehension practice, focusing on pacing and accuracy."
