Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"First session with the student. Went over Math section, which was one of the sections he needs the most improvement on. Also went over general test taking tips and strategies for all sections as well as established goals for every section."
"Today the student and I spent an hour and a half reviewing his Hobbit essay, talking about paper structure, topic sentences, the thesis statement, the conclusion, and so on. His assignment is to have a completed draft by Monday. We also talked about astronomy and the theories of Stephen Hawking, read two chapters from Fever 1793, and practiced some of admissions test vocabulary. "
"During the student's session today we reviewed perimeter and area, and spelling words. She had no problems with her spelling words this week. With perimeter and area, she can calculate both the perimeter and area of a square and rectangle without a problem. When we played with multiplication she could do the multiplies of 10,11,12, and 13 with little to no problem."
"Today we worked on a lot of things for geometry. She is struggling with it, so it's going to be a lot of repetition of concepts until she gets it. We are working on angles, such as the difference between acute and obtuse, and what complementary and supplementary angles are. She has some worksheets to review over the concepts we've worked on the past few sessions."
"The student and I read short passages together out of a science fiction book, and I verbally quizzed him over material to gauge where his reading comprehension was at. He is a very talented and dedicated student. The session went well."
"The student has a quiz at the end of the week covering the Communist Revolution, WWI, and WWII. We spent most of the time talking about the events of WWII (you could spend a year doing this) so that he understood the actors, the reasons for specific actions, and the resolution of the war. Next week, we'll begin reviewing for his final unit test before AP exam prep starts."
