Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we went through the assigned homework problems of graphing that were assigned for the section. We were able to get through most of the problems and the selected problems were pretty easy and did not need much solving of other values such as limits to complete."
"The student had a quiz since the last session, and we went over the questions she got wrong. She has a test this coming Thursday, so we went over new material on Integrals with some packets her teacher gave the class for the remaining time."
"The student and I reviewed for a test she will have this Tuesday. She is doing much better at remembering all of the differentiation rules."
"Today we went over the student's homework for the week. They began position, velocity, and acceleration problems using the first and second derivatives. We also graphed the functions to find the maximum or minimum values of each problem. This session went well. We spent most of the time graphing. The student is going to clarify one section of the worksheet. This section is most similar to physics and may be challenging in the upcoming weeks."
"Student wanted to finish 2 assignments. The assignments covered the topics of linear approximation and fining local mins and maximums via critical points found through derivatives. Student is doing well to grasp concepts, there is little correction to be done for mechanical math skills. We plan on a possible a meetup before the test on Thursday but student feels fairly prepared."
"Continued last week's session. The most difficult to explain was Constructing a Rotational Image by x degrees where x is between 0 and 180. I found a useful YouTube Video that explained a stepbystep procedure. After that we started her homework, which was on translation and rotation."
"We went over some questions with her homework as well as a quiz that she had due this evening. She was quickly grasping concepts but would forget small steps especially with FOIL. I expect great things moving forward."
"Reviewed the student's test. His concern fell mostly on interpreting his answers as well as certain concepts. I showed him the models of making such statements and presented examples to help him visualize these models in use. Left him a couple of internet links to assist in learning the models."
"Prepared for upcoming test tomorrow on chapter 2 algebra. Reviewed relevant topics (algebraic operations and associated terminology, order of operations, and basic equation solving ) by way of practice problems."
"Covered the quadratic formula and sign graphs. This was the first session so there were no scores to note. The student just needed some clarification about the nature of the algorithms that he needed to apply. Once he practiced those algorithms, he started to move quickly through his problems. I had him practice a few homework problems so he had plenty others to do."
"This includes two sessions. One lasted 2 hours and the other 1 hour.
The 2 hour session was spent reviewing sections 4.14.5 in his book. He had a test on Friday which by the end of the session, he was mostly ready. I notified his dad that he would need to review 4.4 and 4.5 further in order to be ready. This session included quadratic functions and applying different techniques to them to either factor or graph.
The 2nd session was over section 4.6. It was understanding another form of quadratic functions called vertex form and using the information to graph them or rearrange them to standard or vertex form. The student had a good handle on this."

"Today we worked on practice problems covering transformations on functions translational shifts and stretching/shrinking. We also went through last week's quiz (score was 86%) and redid the problems he got wrong. He missed a few points, but no major misconceptions with the material."
