"The student and I read a nonfiction text about the brain today that was a significantly higher lexile at 760. He noticed this increased challenge, however he seemed to struggle more with the vocabulary of the text than with the fluency of reading. He got a 9/10 on the comprehension questions and we are continuing to work on restating the questions in his written responses. He consistently demonstrates his reasoning on multiple choice questions by marking out non-logical responses and even asked if he could go back to the text to check an answer. In addition to the reading passage, he and I reviewed some vocabulary we recorded from Monday. He is really enjoying reading and discussing No Summit Out Of Sight, an autobiography. We discussed potentially creating a reward game to play with the vocabulary from the book, but still need to work out the details of this. The student was engaged."
"The student showed me his report card and later I asked his mother to send me a copy of it. Most of the hour was spent reading and discussing a book. He read a couple of chapters and I asked him to discuss what he was reading every couple of paragraphs. I had noticed in his teacher's evaluation he had some weakness identifying with characters and identifying and comparing themes. I asked him to explain what similarities he shared with the main character. The student was quite fluent discussing the main character. He is showing some progress."
"For this lesson we reviewed the concepts we previously learned. The student expressed that she would like to take a quiz on the material we have covered, but wanted to review first. She was successful at identifying past, present, and future tense. Additional homework was provided."
