Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered calculation of area, representing data through pictographs and bar graphs and basic multiplication facts. It was a very productive day and I was very impressed with the abilities of the students!"
"The student and I worked primarily on the modeling exercises. We used the skills he worked on understanding the scale of models and applied them to maps and understanding their keys."
"The student got the results of his last test back. He scored 25 out of 32 in his test, which means he passed this section of the algebra class. His test was on conic sections and logarithms, which is the hardest part of his class. This is an improvement from his previous tests. His teacher has just started to teach sequences and series. I reviewed some of that material with him and taught him some topics in advance."
"Today we started by creating a study guide on all the material we've gone over in the last two sessions. Then we spent time focusing on the topics he wasn't 100% comfortable with (chain rule and parametric equations). For the rest of the session we focused on related rates and optimization, the two toughest topics in this section of calculus. When we finished them, we went over the last couple rules in the section, and have finished chapter 4 in his book; the end of calculus using derivatives, about a semester's worth of work. We will start integration on Thursday, and have a test on all the material we've done on Tuesday."
"Today we reviewed 0-6 times tables, proper way to use the times table chart, big # subtraction, subtracting with zeros, writing multiplication problems as addition problems and computation solving strategies. We discussed solving all problems in the format of left to right, to pay attention to math signs, to remember to cross out numbers when regrouping/ borrowing, and to bring down numbers in math/ subtraction problems. We wrote addition/ multiplication sentences based on illustrations. This student was a pleasure to work with. He continues to improve with his math skills and has begun to automatically 2x his work. He expressed that he had a good session through his laughter, interaction, and smiling."
"Before we covered a big topic, I gave him a review on finding the area, volume, arc length and differential equations. A lot of examples about centroid of a region for him to practice and check if the right steps are followed in finding the centroid. Review of the lesson was a summary before ending the session."
