Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the final review material. The student did a really good job and remembers most of the material. The hardest stuff on this section was solving trigonometric equations, but with a small refresher he remembered how to solve them. Good session."
"From what I gather he got 90+ on his last test so it seems the previous session helped a bit. We began review for his final by doing problems with circles involving area, circumference, arcs and sectors of a circle. Then moved on to problems involving areas of regular polygons."
"We finished up the student's stats homework and then got into her physics as well. The material was a little tougher, though, incorporating friction and normal forces into force diagrams and tying it back to kinematics."
"First session with the student. I familiarized myself with his classes, and we worked on some specific techniques for reading comprehension, studying for Social Studies, note taking, and persuasive writing. "
"Today was my first meeting with the student, and it went very well. We covered section 1.2, and piecewise functions. She did well with the material and will be meeting again on Monday to study for her quiz and cover some more items. The meeting went very well. "
"The student has a physics test on linear motion at the end of this week. We mainly worked on techniques to set up physics problems (defining the system, listing given variables, choosing the right formula, etc..). We also worked through several conceptual and analytical problems to get the student in the right mindset for the test. The session felt very successful!"
"The student and I worked on corrections for a quiz she had taken. The corrections were small and didn't indicate she didn't understand the material. She had no problem fixing her mistakes. After that, we reviewed her homework involving graphing and finding the equation of a line based on the XY chart. She did the work correctly with very little assistance. After math, we studied her science vocabulary involving chemical equations. She wasn't very familiar with at first, but she became more comfortable with them by the end of the session."
"Assisted student in learning the place value pattern of writing numbers. Discussed numbers before and afterwards. Showed ways to look for patterns and to make it easier to find the next number. Reviewed weekly spelling list of words. Asked her to say and tell the meaning of words. We practiced writing them, and highlighting the common letters. "
"The student and I focused on the math and language sections, which were the sections he scored lowest on in practice tests. Most of the math problems that he missed pertained to geometry and algebra. The rest were mostly arithmetic problems. The student has a strong understanding of most of the concepts. The errors he made pertained to a misuse of formulas. Specifically the midpoint and distance formulas. We also reviewed concepts of tangent lines and equations of circles. In the last part of the lesson, we reviewed the language section. Almost all of the questions missed in that section were those that required logical synthesis and reordering of sentences within a passage."
"The student and I talked about his areas of difficulty and what he wants to get out of these tutorials. We also talked with his parents about their expectations. It seems a low score on the SAT pushed them to look for help with reading comprehension. I worked with the student on a few chapters of a book, looked at an essay he had written, and talked about his experiences in classes. We will be working on developing higherlevel reading skills, such as questioning what he reads and drawing inferences, in addition to fostering active reading skills to keep him engaged."
"I had the student do several pages from a reading section so he could practice the strategies we talked about the previous day. We went over the answers and he did much better. We also went over answers from the math section he had done to reinforce some ideas we had worked on."
"The student and I reviewed mixed numbers and improper fractions, as well as subtracting mixed numbers with unlike denominators. She picks up information very quickly and is progressing really well in math."
