"We went over her English and math homework. She seemed prepared for the English test, she knew all the uses of commas and capitalization."
"The student worked on his English homework, reading "Mr. Poppers Penguins" and answering questions. The assignment required him to be a bit more creative."
"I reviewed the student's course work and graded tests, and it looks like she is doing pretty well in school grades-wise. In math, they just finished fractions and will be moving on to decimals, so I went over decimals with her. We did some simple problems converting fractions to decimals and talked about place values. She caught on pretty quickly. I also brought in a little bit on percentages and probability, and she is able to understand the relationship between 75% to 3/4 to .75. We also did a writing prompt and corrected the grammar. She prefers creative writing to essay style writing, and has no problem coming up with ideas. Her writing is pretty good, but this is something we can work on more. Overall, the session went well. She didn't have any problem concentrating, and she got the math concepts pretty quickly. I would like to do a more organized grammar lesson, specifically on run-on sentences and how to use commas."
"The student and I began by reviewing her homework. It involved fractions and other concepts that will be on the assessment test. Then we went over the remaining questions on her practice assessment test in mathematics. She missed certain questions on the test because of simple errors caused by rushing. When we went back over the questions, she was able to see her errors and get the questions right on her second try. I encouraged her to take her time and check her work. We wrapped up our session by going over other questions on her worksheet, and I explained how to do them on her own. The worksheets I gave her cover topics similar to those she missed on her assessment practice test, so if she is able to work those on her own, she should have no problem doing well on her test. She has the knowledge of the concepts to do well. Good luck on the test!"
"He retook the verbal exam and he went from 62% to 97%. He is very happy. We worked on rounding and estimating whole numbers, and adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators in word problems. I am sending him another verbal and reading for practice and he will continue to work the math problems."
"Tonight we worked on practice problems for math, science, and social studies. The student needed help the most with mathematics problems; sometimes she would remember an answer from a previous session but she would not be able to explain her reasoning for how she solved it. Other than that, the student had a great attitude and I think she is used to working with me now. For problems she did not know how to explain but knew the answer, I remade problems of my own that were similar but could not be selected in multiple choice. I then asked her to explain how they solved the problem if she was teaching it to me. On the practice tests the student scored several 100s and a few where she only missed one. I think it was a good session overall, but she could use more improvement in math. We will continue to work on concepts and practice."
