Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student wrote a story. She had built a beautiful doll house at home, and was inspired by it. She crafted a story where vocab words were used. She was also required to single out adjectives, verbs, and nouns. Additionally, we worked on transitions so she can improve upon sentence flow."
"I continued to work with the student on acute, right and obtuse angles; she completed the homework drawing/figuring different angles. She also completed the capitalization and prefix assignments including non, en, multi, post and trans. She completed sentences by placing the missing words in the correct space."
"We worked on editing with the first student. She would reread her essay outbound, sentence by sentence, and decide if she liked the way it was worded, if they said exactly what she was thinking in her mind. We also worked on several spelling words. The second student has a new essay assignment for class about whether or not we should use plastic water bottles. He's started the research to gather examples and to formulate his reasons for why people should not use them. I'm mostly trying to help him understand the essay form, what is on or off topic or too elaborate, and how to organize his thoughts into a cohesive outline."
"We covered cell biology. She was easily able to remember most terms after repeating the terms and concepts. She was really fascinated by cellular functions and seemed even more interested than in our prior sessions with ecology. I asked her to review worksheets and to cover the textbook with notes that are helpful for her understanding before her quiz on Monday."
"During our session today, we finished making the student's flashcards for her vocabulary for World Geography Chapter 4. We reviewed the flashcards to make sure she was comprehending the vocabulary, and we discussed examples of the terms. We also organized her school work in her backpack and binders, and she worked on memorizing her monologue for Theater class. We will have our next session tomorrow, when we will continue reviewing all of the World Geography terms and review her Biology notes on Google Classroom."
"The student worked on her math homework which involved solving and graphing inequalities. She was very quick to understand the concepts. She then worked on a personal narrative she was writing for her public speaking class. She had a solid first draft and mostly worked on eliminating words such as "like" and "basically," and adding details to bring it up to a total time of 2 minutes. She practiced several times in front of me and did a very nice job of speaking slowly and clearly and making the narrative interesting."
