Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered a review of vocabulary, synonyms, analogies, and critical reading for the placement exam. We worked mainly out of the blue prep book, covering many analogies examples and working out of the vocabulary list out of the back of the book. We also did about 20 practice synonym questions. We also studied online, covering a passage out of the critical reading diagnostic test one. The student did well on the English portion. Some more review on his own for homework with critical reading is a good idea. Student paid attention and worked hard throughout the session."
"We went through several math sections using the SSAT book. We reviewed percentages, geometry, and fractions. The student will be able to perform better in the math section if she spends a little more time conceptualizing the problem first before trying to answer the questions. Overall it was a good session."
"The student is taking the SAT on Saturday, so we squeezed in a general prep session to cover as many broad strategies as possible. Our primary focus was on math, especially reviewing formulas that will be most important to memorize for the test. Next we turned to reading passages, spotting which types of questions gave her the most trouble and practicing a strategy to come up with an answer in her own words before reading the answer choices. Finally, we wrapped up with analogies, also practicing forming connections between the words before looking at answer choices. Overall, I think the reading and analogy strategies we worked on tonight will really help her on Saturday, and I think she is gaining lots of confidence in her math as a whole."
