Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Both students and I sat down and we made a plan for their tutoring needs. They both have exams for their English and math classes. We worked on improving their fractions and multiplication skills, which are heavily represented in the upcoming math exams. We will continue working on this and covering English in future sessions."
"This session, we covered decimals and multiplication word problems. We continued with multiplication facts: 6; 2-digit x 1-digit multiplication, and we played an interactive multiplication game We also reviewed the answers to in class assignments. I left the student with 3 worksheets to reinforce decimal multiplication. He is progressing."
"We reviewed multiplication of single digits and worked on multiplying when with a double digit number."
"The student and his mom updated me that he performed well on his fractions quiz, especially with simplifying. We then worked on his reading passages on "The Texas Revolution" and "The Republic of Texas." We discussed the main ideas of each passage and answered the comprehension questions that followed. He practiced referring back to the passage, highlighting key information, and reading the full paragraph for context when revising/editing. He tends to re-read a lot when asked follow-up questions , so I encouraged him to use these strategies so he does not always have to refer back to the passage. He was engaged during the session and participated well."
"Tonight the student and I worked on multiplication and division word problems. I gave her the tip that multiplication problems deal with the same component; for example Emily has 12 books, Julie has 3 times more. The component is the same-- both books. So you multiply. For division, the components are different. For example, Emily has 100 books to separate into 3 shelves. Books and shelves are the components and they are different, so you would divide. We then covered keywords used for multiplication and division problems. It may help her to download an image to put in her binder. She then read for 3 minutes to close the session. Great job."
"The student and I reviewed her geometry class material in preparation for her upcoming test. We also previewed some more advanced geometry concepts for next year. The student requested that we practice U.S. capitals and states for a future test as well. Super productive session!"
