Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I focused on balancing chemical equations for the entirety of our session. He definitely showed a remarkable improvement since our first session covering the topic, as he was able to work quickly and efficiently in completing his homework. Our next session will be held on Wednesday."
"We went through the student's chemistry. It was about oxidation numbers and redox reactions. I explained to him how to find the oxidation numbers and use them to determine which one is the oxidizing agent and which one is the reducing agent. He understood the concepts. Then we solved 2 questions on stoichiometry. At the end, we solved some algebra problems about root functions and their graphs. He is doing well."
"Today, I worked with both students on chemistry and algebra. With the first student, we looked at the empirical formula and how to use percent composition to determine a molecular or empirical formula. I worked an example of each kind of equation and wrote out basic formulas for converting from empirical formula to percent composition, percent composition to empirical formula, and empirical formula to molecular formula. I had her work a practice problem of each before she started her assignment. As she was working on the assignment, she needed to refer to the formulas the first time she worked each type of question but was able to remember the process as she progressed. She said she felt significantly more confident about the process of solving empirical formula problems. With the second student, we looked mainly at exponent rules. I created a worksheet containing the exponent rules as well as examples of exponential growth and decay graphs. I then had him work practice problems concerning the rules. He was able to correct himself through repetition. I additionally showed him how to determine an exponential function from a table of values, which he was able to apply to word problems."
