Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on making a multiplication table. We used tricks to fill in numbers and went over how to use fingers for multiplying nines."
"The first hour of the session was spent with the boys, and we continued going over single and double digit multiplication, as well as some word problems. They did excellent on the single digit multiplication and made no mistakes. We spent more time on double digit multiplication. Student #1 needed a little more review than student #2 on the double digit multiplication. I had prepared a sheet of five third grade level multiplication word problems and we went over the first two. I also introduced triple digit multiplication to them, as well as assigned the remaining three problems as homework, as well as some double digit problems on the back of the sheet. The second hour was spent with student #3 going over the multiplication tables. She once more filled out the tables from 1 to 12 but this time, I had her recite the 2s to me out loud. We also did simple multiplication word problems which she understands. I told her to learn the 2s and 3s for the next session to recite to me."
"We spent the session today covering place values, namely hundreds, tens, and ones. The student did a great job with this section."
"We went over the student's math homework, and then we did some reading and analogies. We also did some measurement practice and working with patterns."
"We covered area of trapezoids, parallelograms, triangles, and rectangles. The student did a great job on calculating the areas of these polygons. He was able to identify the vertical height of the triangles and trapezoids. He continues to show high mathematical acumen. He is preparing for the state assessment 6th grade mathematics exam in May. I feel he will do well on the exam at this pace. It was a productive session."
"Today, the student and I went over a couple of class math worksheets and numerous examples from his recently purchased Grade 3 Math workbook. We covered dot plot and bar graphs, equivalent fractions, and division word problems."
