"The student and I continued to review the math section. He seems much improved from last week, and he's doing much better at quickly navigating the questions to solve the problems at hand. One area to focus on is permutations and combinations, and we will return to that area when we resume. To evaluate where we are at, I am having him perform an entire SAT exam in real time with accurate scoring (practice exam 8). Based on his results, I will recommend whether we need to focus on any area(s) right away or if he is in a strong enough place that I can have him do practice work on his own and resume with his remaining lessons at a more spread-out pace."
"Covered the English and writing sections. Before beginning the lesson, the student informed me that he took a math section and scored a 28. This means he has a 28 on math and a 30 on reading. I gave him an additional English section to take for homework which we will cover today. He also wrote an essay which I gave a 6. His writing seems to be improving quite a bit."
"I planned this session as a final comprehensive review to maximize the girls' familiarity with test content. We finished our look back at Science with guided practice through each type of passage. We then took our last look at Reading, working through each foundational skill with progressively longer passages. As observed in the last round of tutoring, the students both have very high reading comprehension, and are able to employ ACT-specific strategies to answer questions with reliable accuracy. We finished by drilling specific grammar topics from English (voice and punctuation especially). I left additional Math problems as a final refresher - and recommended that the girls use it at least to see if any problem types are still causing difficulties. By sticking to the processes worked through in our prep, both students should score at minimum in the high 20s. Very productive review session."
