Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Prior to our session, the student sent me copies of an exam she wanted to go over. This way I was able to go into the session already aware of the types of questions she found problematic. We had a very productive session having addressed all the questions she had missed on the exam. After the session I emailed her a few links on the topics."
"We spent most of today's session finishing the translation of the letter from Cicero. Once we'd gotten through that translation, I quizzed her again on some forms from the fourth and fifth declensions, and she did pretty well with most of them."
"Today the student and I worked on his reading fluency by reading a story. He used reading strategies to predict what the story was about and to read unknown words, (chunking, picture clues). He also worked on finding multiplication facts by playing a game, circles and stars. He calculated how many stars were in each circle, fact x fact = product. We ended the session by reviewing math doubles and subtraction facts 1-20."
"Me/We Comparison Worksheet Homework, Math Packet makeup work from last week, Cursive practice. The student has been working enthusiastically this week and has seemed quite happy! I am very happy to see it."
"Math: covered order of operations, positive and negative numbers. The student did several exercises and we reviewed her answers and the underlying principles as well as some short cuts for solving certain problems."
"The student was able to take a practice exam. It seems clear, from our discussion, that his worry about the time pressure is causing him to rush through questions, and when he rushes, he doesn't get very many right at all. The key is moving deliberately--not dawdling, but not rushing. He's going to work on that when he does another practice exam tomorrow before our session Wednesday."
