Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered various Algebra subtopics and I asked him to do 2 Critical Reading sections from his study guide and to review what we had covered in the Algebra packet for next time."
"I continued to work with the student on SAT, going over another sample essay prompt and practicing questions from reading, math, and writing sections to practice strategies."
"Today we began preparing her for the December SAT. She did not have any materials other than the score report from her October SAT, so I gave her a copy of the blue book which contains 10 full SAT tests. We began the session with math, which she admitted is her worst subject. We went over practice problems in several subjects, including coordinate geometry, combinations, ratios, slope, integers, averages, and percentages. She didn't know what to do on a lot of problems, but after some explanation she was able to figure out many of them. We then worked on sentence completions. We discussed strategies regarding predicting the blanks in terms of positive/negative and two-blank sentences' relationships to each other. We also noted that root words and sounding out words can often give clues as to the meaning of difficult words. We did several practice problems. Finally, we noted general test strategy and discussed when to guess and when to leave a question blank. For next time she will do lots of math and sentence completion problems."
