"The student and I worked on sentence completions. Her math is superb! She is doing a practice test for next week."
"In this session, the student and I worked on English and math. We started by working through one passage from the English section of the ACT, and then also worked on one section of correcting sentence errors from the SAT. In both sections, the student did well overall, and said that he found most of the questions easy to medium in difficulty. We worked on knowing when to use commas with appositives, differentiating between the relative pronouns "who"ù and "whom,"ù using dependent clauses, and using pronouns correctly and unambiguously. In the second part of the session, we first worked through one section of math from the SAT. The student was able to find the right answer for problems which made more evident what strategy one could use to solve them, but had a bit more trouble with problems that involved more creative thinking and logic puzzles. For these, we practiced drawing diagrams to visualize the situation and plugging in values for unknown variables, which the student found quite helpful. We will review these types of problems again in our next session. We moved on to work on some problems from the ACT math section: we practiced using equations for properties of circles, using the form of an equation to determine properties of its graph, and understanding ratios. The student can improve even more in this section by reviewing important formulas such as the equations for area and circumference, special triangles, and trigonometric identities."
"We covered functions and exponents after discussing how the SAT went this past weekend for her. She still faces challenges with these concepts, so I will send her a review document this week."
