Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was my first meeting with the student. We started working on geometry and the concepts of area and perimeter. We will be focusing on multiplication and division in the next few sessions."
"Today I met with the student for our weekly session. We began by reviewing our last session We then reviewed the homework I had left her with. We then reviewed the calendar/syllabus to integrate this week's content and material for a Wednesday quiz (graphic representations of data and some statistics), especially focusing on box-and-whisker plots and independent vs. dependent probability. We finished up preparing for Quiz 5.2 using the teacher-posted review guide. She seems to be keeping up very well with the course content and is able to identify areas where she needs more help. She is then very engaged and curious when we work on those areas together through a combination of didactic and interactive one-on-one work and utilizing online resources."
"We reviewed concepts involving quadratic functions in vertex form, roots of polynomials, and graphing quadratics. We applied these concepts to practice problems from the homework and textbook."
"On Wednesday we covered coordinate distances. We reviewed a past homework that involved plotting coordinates and their X-axis/Y-axis reflections. I left the student with a sample graph for extra practice where he had to plot points and make reflections."
"We honed in on solving exponential and logarithmic equations. I think showing the student the three methods for solving these types of equations helped him have great success."
"We covered: test Corrections on properties of exponents, graphing radical/exponential equations, and extraneous solutions. Also, we touched on logarithms and how to use inverse properties to simplify expressions. We also went over extraneous solutions: using factoring instead of isolating (x+1)^2 and solving."
