"The student and I worked on reading comprehension through visualization and organization of text. His oral reading fluency has improved. He is reading with more expression as well. When answering questions regarding the text, he sometimes chooses answers that could be correct, but not always the best answer for the question asked. I urged him to start thinking about what exactly the question is asking and to find proof of that within his reading. He sometimes focuses so much on the main idea or bigger picture that he uses that mode of thinking to answer the questions. Once we discussed how best to approach questions and the answer choices, he was able to think more about each one individually. We completed 2 visualization practices and one organizational passage."
"This session began with a persuasive writing assignment followed by some acting it out. After that, the majority of the lesson contained reading articles with a mathematics based. The student used the close reading and stop and jot techniques throughout a story about an ancient Greek mathematician and a story about angles. We also drew personal connections to the stories and he was asked to speak about a time he used the math that was read about. I also drew visuals to solidify the reading."
"It was my first lesson with the student. We worked with a book. She did very well and followed along with understanding perfectly. We did a picture walk through the book and made predictions about its contents before I read the story aloud to her while she answered aloud some comprehension questions along the way. She then read the story back to me and did very well with only a few trouble spots. She's very good at sounding out words. I then had her write a few questions of her own about the story and she did very well with that too. Overall the lesson went very well and she seems to be a strong student. I will bring some more challenging material for her next time and see how she does with that."
