Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"My first session with this student went very well. We started talking about the gap between his first semester performance and the second semester performance. He shows all signs of having the aptitude (can usually do the easy problems at the head of a section) for calculus, but needs to work on developing study skills. He also asked about how to do u-substitutions. I urged him to purchase an AP Calculus AB workbook to bring to our sessions."
"We covered linear functions in slope intercept form. We defined slope and y-intercept and both graphed functions and used graphs to determine functions. We worked through 2 worksheets to answer some questions and then I extrapolated on where the course would likely go next. I'm assuming that they will cover linear inequalities next so hopefully the student now has a head start."
"The student started a section on units of length and measurement. We reviewed inches, miles, and feet, and started on ounces and pounds."
"We were able to cover the rest of his spring break homework packet, which covered many different things. He is getting better at solving problems, but I am still getting him to understand what each question is asking him to do. He is a bright kid and this session was much better than the last. He has really picked up solving equations, but still needs to study certain little aspects of mathematics. He is always eager to learn, which is a good thing. I did not leave him with any extra practice because of the extensiveness of the homework packet. But, he does have all the notes that we have used over the past couple of sessions."
"I continued working with the student on using the least common multiple to add fraction with differing denominators, including simplifying answers and writing as mixed numerals. He is getting the hang of these problems and I left him with more to work on."
"The student and I reviewed for his test on Tuesday and Wednesday. We did a lot with exponentials and logarithms. We practiced how to changed forms and used the change of base formula to answer some questions. We also did some word problems that were required to make a function. We also used the interest formulas and solved for T and the Amount of money A in an account. It was a good session."
