Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is very anxious about her upcoming exam. Although she knows all of the information, she continues to have moments where she forgets and is very anxious. We worked on techniques to calm down, and a methodology to allow her to concentrate more on the paper and less on the idea of the test."
"Today we covered solving trigonometric equations. At first the student was a bit unsure why we took the inverse of sine function, etc., or why we looked at the unit circle to solve simpler ratios, but once he saw that the value contained in the function (i.e. x in sin(x)) was what would be equal to the result of the inverse function, it became clearer. Next time we will be reviewing more of the unit circle to make these problems more intuitive."
"The student and I introduced ourselves today and went over the course material he needed to prepare before his exam. We covered how to solve right triangles and also word problems involving trigonometry (with some physics introduction). He is very well prepared for this course. He has the right strategic mindset to solve the problems and is very enthusiastic in understanding the material. I answered questions he was unsure about and also gave him tips (what to memorize and how to approach certain problems)."
"During this session, we focused on geometry, but we moved on to the other three math categories once we finished the geometry questions. The student began the session with her awesome attitude and motivation to work hard, and she seemed to perform with more accuracy during this session compared to the previous meeting. The two main strategies I left her with are to slow down during questions that seem easy and to double-check question as she works through them."
"The student and I began geometric concepts which was a concept that was covered in school. She was able to understand the concept but could not recall the vocabulary. Her mother and I discussed extra practice with her at home with flashcards and timed tests with all four operations to build fact fluency. I provided the student with a fact practice book, flashcards, and a math skill practice book that covers a little of all math skills from addition, place value, multiplication, to fractions, geometry, and algebra. I have seen progress in her in focus, time taken on tasks, and multiplication skills."
"The student was doing well on all the reviews and practices. We worked on fractions adding/subtracting, mixed number fractions (integer and fraction) adding/ subtracting, fractions multiplying/ dividing, mixed number fractions (integer and fraction) multiplying/ dividing, mixed numbers (decimals and fractions) adding/ subtracting, mixed numbers (decimals and fractions) multiplying/ dividing, and sorting numbers, fractions/ decimals/ integers/ mixed numbers."
