Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over the student's practice test today. We focused on math and qualitative reasoning. The student needed very little help. She is especially good at working out tricky word problems. After we went over every incorrect question on her second practice test, the student then began another practice test. The student is very bright. She is motivated to learn and improve. She is always very attentive and focused on the task at hand. Thus our tutoring sessions are always very productive."
"During our second session we reviewed the reading comprehension, essays, and a portion of the mathematics achievement sample problems in the standardized test prep book. From the one passage the student had done, she got 4/6 problems correct. This is very good for her first practice passage. By going through questions in the guide, the student was able to learn new math concepts and brush up on old skills such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing using negative and positive numbers. We also went over percent of increase and how to write numbers in standard and scientific notation. Lastly, we began working on the distributive property and how it relates to equations by using the learning tools questions. I think the student is very quick to pick up on concepts and can do subsequent problems successfully, which shows good focus and the ability to retain information for the test. I believe the student struggles the most with the high school math concepts she has not learned yet, but with ample preparation she will be ready. I left the student with a diagnostic practice exam in a workbook as well as some problem sets in reading comprehension and math achievement."
"The student had completed the remainder of his math practice from the ISEE prep test guide, the results of which we discussed at the beginning of the session. He shows strength in terms of spatial reasoning. Elsewhere, he understands when I explain how one might arrive at the correct answer. He answered perfectly on the reading comprehension exercise. Also, while the next section of math featured a few higher-level problems, he scored better on the whole. He displayed greater adeptness with polynomials and complicated exponents than previously. With time and practice, his math skills should reach a competitive level for when he faces the ISEE."
