Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I went over graphing trigonometric identities as well as using these identities to do word problems."
"Today we covered exponential growth in the context of money and interest. She was pleasantly surprised by its simplicity and we ended up moving on to more complex growth/decay problems. The student continues to do well and I look forward to working with her each week."
"We reviewed Chapters 12 and 13 (limits and derivatives) today in preparation for the final exam. Overall, I think the student is understanding the material well."
"Today we continued to study for his precalc test that is tomorrow. We went over ellipses and hyperbolas. We examined the differences between the two standard equations."
"The student needed help understanding some concepts in Pre-Calculus. This includes how to use Gaussian elimination more effectively when solving a system of equations, how to graph inequalities, and how to multiply/add/subtract matrices."
"The student's teacher had introduced the new concept of fractions. The student was adding fractions with the same denominator and subtracting fractions with the same denominator. She was also looking at picture representations of fractions and adding and subtracting them. She worked hard on this and did well with this concept when we practiced together. She also scored an 87 on her decimal test from last week."
"We reviewed the student's test. I emphasized the importance of attention to detail and told him he needs to show work on his test. We reviewed an assignment that involved using ratios of proportionality to calculate total cost."
"We went over quizzes that the student received back from her teacher. We also further discussed mean, median, and mode, and built upon them with data charts: line plots, line graphs, and bar graphs. She also quizzed me on multiplication tables, which helped her to memorize better."
"The student and I studied for her exam. We reviewed all the topics that were going to be on the exam. We then reviewed homework that was assigned; the same topics were also going to be on the exam."
"For our first session, we looked back at some of the student's previous work in geometry. We went through some old notes and talked about some of the things he still needs to work on, get caught up on, and what they are working on in class now. We then looked at his homework and current class notes to clarify some problems he was having with those. We looked at properties of triangles and line angle diagrams and worked through a few proofs with those as well."
"The student and I had a productive session. We reviewed his homework, which was creating a graph and working on unit rates. He needs work on his understanding of proportions, so I plan to cover these topics strongly the next session."
"Last night the student and I covered polynomials and radical exponents. We discussed addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of radical exponents. We also corrected her homework. Before leaving we covered nomenclature of acids and their formulas. She made 100 on her last 4 quizzes and tests in chemistry and algebra. She also made 88 on her most recent algebra quiz. We went over those concepts again to ensure that she understood. She is making great progress. I gave her several worksheets to practice. I also emailed her some extra practice."
