Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student needed to focus on trigonometry going beyond the basic sine, cosine, and Pythagorean Theorem materials. We did some practice problems out of the book. I highlighted the importance of thinking about the definitions of the concepts. I showed him how we manipulate definitions in mathematics to make complicated propositions easier. We practiced this using vectors (with some review of physics) and polar coordinates. He made good progress in utilizing properties of vectors and coordinate systems to solve problems, bolstered by real world examples."
"Covered Chapter 6: Trigonometry; Chapter 7: Trigonometric Graphs; Chapter 8: Solving Trigonometric Equations; Reviewed Sect. 6.5 homework. Sect. 6.5: Basic Trigonometric Identities."
"We focused on graphing functions and finding asymptotes as well as holes and functions based on word descriptions. The student seems to be doing very well with them now."
"Today, the student and I covered her worksheet involving trig identities. She missed class yesterday so I reviewed the purpose of identities as well as some of the major ones. We then used those to finish the suggested worksheet given by the teacher. The student was able to apply most of the identities to the various problem types. As with most students, memorizing the unit circle will take practice and repetition so I suggested she review it each day before our next session."
"Today we covered multiple forms of limits. The student struggled most with the limits of trig functions. He was positive and was learning the material fast. I gave him some visual aids in order to better understand the limits. He seemed to have a strong understanding by the end of the session so no extra problems were assigned."
"The student and I reviewed for her upcoming quiz over sequences and series. She had no trouble at all with arithmetic or geometric sequences, but she needed some help figuring out patterns to other kinds of sequences."
