"Working with a group of three boys, we practiced test-taking strategies, working through a series of math problems, focusing on rounding, multiplication, addition, graphs, and fractions. The problems seemed easier for the boys than usual, so we moved quickly and they did well. The students were able to finish early so we played multiplication bingo with the two other groups for about a half hour, reviewing their multiplication facts."
"This was our last day, and we worked on long division and word problems. She has improved a lot on long division. I think she will do well on the standardized test."
"With student A, we reviewed words with the /ur/ sound with spelling patterns ir, er, and ear. We reviewed words and their accompanying meanings. She later matched them with pictures to have a visual understanding of what the words meant. We also reviewed cause and effect from the previous lesson. We then did some more reading exercises where she would read the paragraph, tell me what is what about and answer the main idea questions about the paragraph. In math we did two-step word problems. She did very well and has mastered this, so we will move on to more complex multiplication word problems in future lessons. For student B, we concentrated on math. She was introduced to algebraic expressions and practiced writing an expression based on a mathematical statement. In doing this we also reviewed words that indicate which math operation to use. She also worked on the adding and subtracting fractions from whole numbers. We stressed vocabulary and concepts during this lesson. Student B was given extra practice with subtracting fractions from whole numbers and student A had to write a story using all of her spelling words to see if she had mastered the meanings of these words and could use them collectively. She was also given some word problems to complete as well."
"Today the student worked through his review packets on differential equations and applications of derivatives. He picks up concepts quickly!"
"Today we covered previous material that the student had questions on. Started with limits and then moved on to exponential decay and growth using differential equations. Initially, the student struggled with decay and growth, but after he understood the general concept he was able to understand it. Overall great session."
"Today the student and I worked on graphing circles. Because it was her first time dealing with such equations, it went a little slowly but she eventually caught on. Near the end of the session we began integrating "completing the square" into these problems and will work on them more next session."
