Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on math facts utilizing her school website to play multiplication baseball as well as "beat the computer," in which the student practiced her multiplication facts. She also took another timed multiplication fact test and scored her highest yet - 62/100 in 3 minutes. She is steadily improving in math fact knowledge and uses her fingers to count with much less frequency than when I began tutoring her. She still needs work with the 6,7, 8, and 9's, but is improving in those facts with each session. We also completed the student's homework for school today, working on placing decimal points as well as some review of adding fractions, changing denominators to add fractions and long division. Her math confidence is definitely up and she is doing well."
"Reviewed fractions and vocabulary. Emphasized importance in vocabulary of understanding the word and being able to spell it. Worked on preparing for history test. Reviewed importance of doing each problem in math."
"Reviewed 200 final exam question packet for biology I, fall semester. The vast majority of the multiple-choice questions had already been answered."
"This week we looked specifically at reading and which questions to skip as the student is getting more comfortable. She also remembered to look for the most broad answer that specifically answers the question, and she did well on the first section of reading. The second was not as strong, but she is learning to skip better."
"I met with the student to review topics that would be on her next exam. The topics included finding the slope-intercept form of the tangent line at a specific point; derivation techniques such as the product rule, quotient rule, chain rule, and implicit differentiation; and the behavior of a function as "x" approaches positive or negative infinity. It was another successful session filled with progress. The student has shown improvement in her understanding of calculus and other necessary mathematical concepts."
"The student and I completed a handful of passages on sound and a number of organic chemistry passages in the test prep book. Overall, he did well in almost all of the passages we completed. He just needed to refresh his knowledge of the sound equations, but other than that, he cruised through almost all of the passages. He will start completing practice exam questions today. From now on, I will assign him random passages from various topics, and we will also go over any practice exam questions that he has trouble on for our remaining sessions going forward."
