Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Rates of change, especially trigonometric problems. Using derivatives of trig functions in applied problems. The student picked this material up well. We discussed elements of strategy in solving this class of problem."
"Our first session went very well. We went through his practice exam, addressing all the questions that he missed and identifying his weak areas. Next week we will go over some of the test taking techniques. We have planned to meet Tuesday and Thursday from 12:30-2:30."
"Student and I briefly reviewed number sequence and position (ones, tens, hundreds, etc.) and practiced single and double-digit addition. He had some difficulty with the double-digit addition, but did well staying focused throughout the session. The last third of the session we took turns reading aloud from a book that we began last week. We discussed breaking larger words into smaller "chunks" to sound out while reading. We plan to meet again on Wednesday, October 3 at 6:30 pm."
"The student and I finished going over the math section and then looked at the incorrect answers from her practice test in the English and Reading sections. The latter were mostly minor mistakes that required her to read the questions more closely. After that, she did a timed science section, and she ran out of time after completing 75% of the questions. We discussed time management techniques for a while and a plan for the last 2 sessions. We will work on time management and attention to detail in math."
"Intro to SAT sections, scoring and basic strategy. Evaluated student in reading, vocab, and grammar. Discussed goals with both student and parent. Set up initial schedule for both SAT practice and outside study (reading and vocabulary)"
"The student and I discussed her midterm project that required her to use Adobe (Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign) to create a product layout and design template. We discussed the creation of logos in Illustrator with the pen tool and even added coloring with fill and stroke options. We exported files from Illustrator and Photoshop to InDesign. In InDesign we set up and established master pages and discussed the benefits of those. At the conclusion of our session, the template and framework was laid out for her to just fill in the rest with the details about the product she created."
