"* The student shared the report he did on Elk with me. * We worked on an animal "search" page, since he stated he "loves animals." * I gave him the first lesson on phonics blends/ sounds, which are basic for him. He is pretty comfortable with them already. I asked him to review them. * We began reading "Polar, the Titanic Bear." As he read, I showed him tips on how to sound out the unfamiliar words. * He has an incredible grasp of details and perfect recall! He reads slowly assimilating all the information he is receiving. * He has amazing depth of conversation content."
"During our last session, the student and I practiced various strategies to help his reading comprehension. He practiced reading the questions before reading the article in helping him with his annotations. He was able to read three short stories and accurately answer the questions that followed. He and I ended the session by practicing his reading fluency and various strategies to help his pacing."
"Using a worksheet provided by his teacher, I quizzed the student verbally on his 5x multiplication table. He lost points on his 4x test because he ran out of time. So, I timed him doing two rows at a time, and then three. I left him with the last pages to do on his own, at four and five rows at a time. We used a sample reading online to cover his reading comprehension for the session. The passages are brief, involving someone who was instrumental in bringing cherry blossoms to Washington, DC."
