"The student is doing somewhat well already in her geometry class, but we will be solidifying her knowledge, and thoroughly practicing fundamental algebra and geometry concepts more often to help her truly understand the basis of all future math courses. We went over her past exams from this semester today, and we figured out some of the mistakes she often makes. For example, she was not very sure about the differences between expressions and equations, and she needed to solidify some of the key differences among similar geometric figures. Furthermore, she also needs more practice on factoring quadratic equations or expressions. We will address all of these issues in the coming weeks. Her teacher seems to be very meticulous and likes to focus on definitions or conceptual problems rather than application problems. This means she needs to review the key definitions outlined in her book in addition to understanding the formulas. For geometry formulas, the best way to understand them is to learn exactly how they are derived. We will be focusing on learning more in depth formula derivations as well as doing more practice problems."
"We covered properties of parallelograms (squares, rectangles, rhombi, trapezoids). We went over how to use those rules in order to solve for unknowns."
"We went over how to calculate the area and perimeter of composite shapes. We also worked on creating a pedigree based on an imaginary circus family that was given."
"After doing well on her chapter 10 test, the student and I moved on to chapter 11. She was able to catch on to the formulas for area and perimeter quickly, but still needs to practice the problems as this is a new concept."
"We covered conics-ellipses and parabolas, traits defining each, and how to graph them. The student is familiar with the formulas defining each shape and formulas to find the traits but probably needs more practice understanding what each trait means to be able to translate the values to a graphical representation."
"The student worked through some problems on her own. She got about half of the problems correct, but was able to at least partially answer most problems with a few guiding questions."
