Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Second session with the student, we met at a cafe due to schedule conflict. We discussed basic test strategies including process of elimination, and pacing targets. Then we went on to discuss math content, mostly arithmetic concepts this time. For the last 30 mins we discussed essay strategy and content."
"After reviewing last weeks lesson, the student and I continued our study of grammar; specifically "Prepositions: and "other Little things: faulty comparisons, adjectives vs adverbs and active vs passive." After the break, we began discussing the Critical Reading section of the test, focusing primarily on Sentence Completions and the three steps involved in solving them."
"The student and I finished working on the practice exam we had started two sessions ago. She experienced minimal difficulties with the last grammar section. I told her that the math problems on the test are actually relatively easy to solve once you fully understand what each problem asks. She also tended towards solving math problems in her head, albeit inaccurately, as opposed to using her calculator to ensure that she gets the correct answer. I told her that her calculator is there, available to use for a reason during the math sections and that she should use them whenever the opportunity arises, no matter the difficulty of the problem. We plan to focus on more doing math sections in the future tutoring sessions to come. I also told her to keep track of the time when she practices on her own, as the test can prove to be difficult to many students because of the time pressure."
