Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student did a great job during our session. We read a novel. He was able to get through two chapters within the hour we were working together. He should much more comprehension and sentence flow during our session. He was much more focused and was able to even make educated guesses on what was to happen in the reading based on what we had already read. He seemed very motivated by the book and significantly improved on his ability to sound out words and stay focused on his reading. It was helpful for me in keeping him engaged and interested, as the book was one of my favorite series as a kid about his age. I think the level is very appropriate for where he should be. He is still struggling with sounding out words. He still guesses at words occasionally instead of sounding them out, but is doing this much less than previous sessions. I was very happy with our session together. I feel if we can find a book (or series) that is a higher level that interests him, although more difficult, he will excel much faster."
"We started with reading two different passages. We then worked on word families for -ir, -er, and -ur. These seemed pretty easy for the student and we worked on spelling words that contained these sounds. Lastly, we worked on filling in words in a passage (focusing on vowels with long a sound). She did well applying what we learned about vowels and sounding out larger words."
"Today we covered declarative, interrogative and exclamatory sentences. The student was able to label sentences appropriately as well as put the correct punctuation at the end of each sentence. He also read all directions aloud as well as all the sentences. I gave him a puzzle book about Germany (his interest) to keep him reading and writing all week."
