Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This week we covered more review of power, exponential, quadratic, and linear. Student was having the most issues with connecting the implication/meaning of an equation to solving the problem. For example, a linear equation modeling how much gas (g) was left in the tank after (m) miles - she knew what all the intercepts were, but when I asked how many miles could be driven on one tank, there was a blank. I encouraged her to graph these problems out so that she could take an extra step to understand what the equation really meant for the relationship."
"Both girls were able to recall the quadratic formula and use it properly. We also reviewed multiplying polynomials. We began to work with exponents but will need to continue the topic next time."
"The student is learning about circumference and area of a circle. We completed homework assignments on these topics and went over conceptual issues. Also completed Spanish assignments and went over vocabulary."
"We talked about the student's test and made test corrections. She made some arithmetic errors that resulted in missed problems and didn't understand one of the sections which contributed to a low grade. Once we'd discussed it on the test and quiz, however, she picked up the material quickly. We also talked about simplifying radicals with both addition/ subtraction and multiplication/ division. She feels more confident in these concepts now, but we'll review more again as needed."
"I helped the student with his upcoming algebra test. We focused on solving single and multi-variable equations. He has a strong grasp on all the concepts and is diligent about using the same repeated procedure to analyze. This increases his efficiency for completing and comprehending problems. He had some questions with squared variable equations resulting in two solutions involving square roots. Once we went through the steps forward and backward (from question to solution and solution to questions), he understood it derived because squaring a negative number can also be the solution. I am confident his understanding of the material, coupled with his step by step analysis, will result in excellence."
"During this session we covered a review of previous material we have seen since the beginning of our meetings. The student was able to complete the exercises with relative ease, and there were only a few new sections to cover. After this review, we also went over his last Spanish quiz, and I realized it is basic Spanish that causes an issue for him. During our next session I will bring basic exercises and review sheets for him to work on as well, before this becomes an issue."
