"Today we read more from a more advanced book about dinosaurs. He seemed much more focused today. I think the dinosaur books are a good level for him and provide him a means to let his mind wander while staying on an educational subject. I think his reading pace and flow are slowly improving. We then went over some grammar lessons in his workbook. We looked over nouns/verbs and words that can be both nouns and verbs. We did two exercises that he was able to easily complete. I think once his sentence flow becomes smoother he will struggle less with comprehension. When you point out specific parts for him to read, he understands easily. I think, over time, he will develop all the necessary skills he needs. He is moving forward and is a very enthusiastic kid. He has a good level of interest and good energy."
"The student and I worked on his spelling words. He then finished writing sentences for his words. We completed a summarizing activity. We then worked on three reading passages and exercises."
"Today we reviewed the sounds worked on last week. The student was able to recall the sound once she saw a word that the sound was in. I had her read a few sentences with -ee, -ea, -y, -i.e., -e, and -y to see if she knew that sound. She did well with reading all of those as the long e sound. We then read There's a Wocket in my Pocket. Before starting, we talked about rhyming words and I informed her that some of the words in the book were nonsense words, but that she could use the real words to help her in sounding out the nonsense words. She did pretty well with this book. She did need reminding a few times to look at the rhyming word to figure out the nonsense word. She does very well with comprehending what she reads and realizing when she reads a word incorrectly, noting when it doesn't make sense in the sentence. She also does well with context clues to figure out what she is reading even when she is struggling with sounding out a word."
