Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Another successful discussion of grammar and a little bit of vocabulary. We also discussed ways that the student could apply the comfort that he has in verbal conversation and apply it to his writing. We discussed some of the differences in formal/academic writing and casual writing, and spoke of ways he could brainstorm and plan what to write without having to initially worry quite so much about form."
"Reviewed the Science section of the exam and the style of testing for this section. The student has a good understanding of how the questions are asked for the Science section, and we decided to focus on the Math section even more."
"We discussed specific questions regarding the classification of tissues and the cell during this session. The client predominantly had trouble understanding the "bigger picture" in regards to these topics so I proceeded to teach her simpler ways to remember things. The client also learns quicker if she talks things out so we utilized that technique for most of the session. We also did some exercises in the book that she provided and I used visual aids to help her understand the material. I advised her to go her lab to physically to look at the slides to aid her in her exam."
"We reviewed the student's SAT test scores; discussed goals, her approach to the last test and test-taking strategies; covered the sentence-completion section of critical reading with practice questions; and assigned homework: explore SAT website and score analysis, start vocab flashcards, do two timed practice tests and score them online, complete readings."
"Today the student worked on correcting her homework and test. I also helped her understand the basic concept to grouping involved in multiplication. I left her practice work with the associate property with the facts equaling 9 which will help her learn her 9 times tables. I then introduced her to math skills to quicken her skill in computation problems."
"We started going over the Practice Makes Perfect: Conversation book, reading a dialogue, going over examples of various structures, and highlighting important things to know and important exercises to do."
