Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Third session with the student. Reading score has improved a lot on the weekly practice tests that I assign. Worked on an English and science section today. Timing is fine, so now we're trying to identify and cut down on mistakes that are made on the sections."
"Acids and Bases: Strong Acids/Bases vs. Weak Acids/Bases pH calculations (go over when to use ICE equation), Acidic and Basic Salts (how to determine whether it is an acid producing, base producing, or neutral salt)."
"The student and I got into a big discussion about agreement in Spanish last night. It's a really tricky concept because it doesn't really happen much in English, but I think the student has a good handle on it. It will make her Spanish much stronger going forward, and help her to pick new material up much more easily. The other student and I also talked a bit about agreement, and also just generally prepared for his make-up quiz and in-class activity. I think he is in good shape as well. "
"Human Anatomy/Physiology- The student and I went over a worksheet covering material for a quiz she has tomorrow on the nervous system. I checked her work for correctness and helped her reinforce weak points. I also utilized some visual aids. I then went over several key words with her."
"During this tutoring session we reviewed for the final exam. We covered the following topics: scientific methods, theory, atoms, compounds, significant figures, density, dimensional analysis, and Dalton's theory."
"This was our first session, so I spent a few minutes discussing the student's concerns and learning her level of translation experience. We went over a few sentences from an upcoming chapter in her textbook, making sure to parse each word (especially the verbs), and discussing strategies for translation. For next week, she will make a note of confusing concepts that she comes across in class. We'll discuss these issues and use any remaining time to work on practice exercises in her textbook."
