Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student has been performing prep work for the math, and is more than a week ahead of schedule. We spoke about several topics in the trigonometry chapter that were difficult for him. I suggest that he could build a formula sheet of information that helps him remember the material. We discussed the chapters of the physics book that cover Newton's laws and Work/Energy. He will need to review this material in more depth and run through the sample problems and drills. I suggested that he shift his focus to the physics book for prep work, as he appears to be several sessions ahead of schedule on the math work. During our discussion last time, we concluded that he may benefit from more time spent during our sessions on physics, which will require that he spend time preparing for the sessions."
"We covered all of the sections in today's session. We worked through practice tests in the SAT prep book. We started with the math section, and the student answered the more straightforward algebra questions easily. He is still improving with word problems and translating those into algebraic equations, and we will continue to practice those problems. In the reading section, he only answered 3 questions incorrectly, a good improvement. I am assigning him to look up SAT word lists online to look through and familiarize himself with. Those lists will help expand his vocabulary. We also covered the writing section briefly, and we will cover it in more depth during our next session."
"The student and I had a good session. We broke the ice with about 20 math questions: percents, fractions, substitutions. After which he and I created a narrative outline template and, using our persuasive template from last week, we planned out a paper on school uniforms. We also reviewed comma use and paragraph structure. We will do expository outlines next week and introductory math word problems."
