Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We spent most of the session going through geometry. I went through circles with her and all of the theorems that she may need to know. • She has been doing well in the class. • I left her with a couple of worksheets to go through if she needed extra help."
"The student had some math homework to do and she had some issues with one homework problem that they worked on in class. She seems to understand the material very well."
"The student had a worksheet on solving right triangles for missing sides and angles. He knew how to find missing angles, but didn't know how to find two missing sides. We went over how to do this, and he caught on very quickly. After he finished the worksheet, we went over how to solve some other triangles that weren't a right triangle. He was able to apply the old ideas to a very new and different situation. He is ahead or right on track for his course. He had just taken a test so we previewed the law of sines and cosines. I showed him the proofs and we talked about why these laws were useful. We did some practice problems and worked on looking at triangles and seeing which law would be best for the different circumstances. I've noticed that he is quick to pick up geometry concepts but struggles with the algebra concepts needed to complete the problem. I'll keep emphasizing these concepts and we'll talk through the how and why of them. The student and I worked on perimeter and area of rectangles, triangles, rhombi, and kites. He doesn't quite have some of the formulas memorized but he know where to find them and how to use them. Two problems were tricky in that he didn't know either base or height of the rectangle but only knew the perimeter and area. We talked about how to solve those and how drawing a picture and labeling everything we know helps to organize things."
"Today, we used several theorems to prove congruence for triangles. Then, we used the congruence to prove that individual sections of triangles are congruent. We did several problems, and we saw many examples."
"We reviewed the trigonometric functions. The student has improved considerably, which is great to see! After we derived some of the important special triangles, we did a review of factoring, since he has a test coming up in algebra. Fortunately, his mental arithmetic is strong, so he is quite good at factoring as long as he keeps the method straight."
"We worked on various topics regarding the student's upcoming test. I spoke extensively with his mom about this situation after the session, and I'm sending video content for him to watch as well as other material. We will be meeting tomorrow as well."
