Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we focused on Math sections of the SAT using questions from the SAT book. We started with a review of the writing section of the test and covered the various types of questions covered in the section. Then we went through the questions in two math sections, including a section with the "fill-in" type questions. The student did very well on the questions, though struggled to find the first step in most problems that would lead her to the answer. I believe she is taking the test taking strategies seriously and has begun to use them in our session. I did not leave the student with an assigned extra practice, but will be sending her some online questions to complete before our next session."
"The student worked through sentence completion problems for 90 minutes. - He is very strong in sentence completion problems and very well versed in the process of elimination. I encouraged him to study a vocabulary list to improve even more. Homework: do the 3 critical reading passages in practice test #1 from the test prep book. First pass: go by the official time allotted, second pass: do all the problems he didn't complete in the first pass."
"For this lesson, the student and I first spent time on fractions and decimals as well as percent problems. We went over approaches and the shortest ways to solve problems involving those concepts. Next we worked on the SAT writing section and the student got all but one or two right. Lastly, we talked about the essay and how to best approach it. First we went through all the recent books the student has read and is familiar with, and then went through sample essay topics and how she could use a combination of those books and current events/history to answer the prompts."
