Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we worked on reviewing rules for two-syllable words to determine whether the vowel sounds are short and long. We will review this next week as well. We also practiced the student's fluency skills by playing memory fluency practice. He did well with his accuracy, and, with repeated readings of his sentences, his fluency increased. For the first time, we applied skills to read a low readability high interest story. I will send the incentive chart through email to his mother with additional activities to do during the week."
"The student did well in her session last night. Her math homework was much shorter than usual and therefore we had more time to focus on reading and comprehension, vocabulary and writing. We read from Junie B. Jones, a book the student had read before, but we were able to walk through it slowly and I asked very specific questions related to plot and characters. She did well answering them, especially when we looked at specific passages together. Finally, the student seemed to really enjoy the writing activity we did, in which I gave her a sentence with blanks and she would fill in words that would make sense. I would like to definitely use this activity as a fun, productive break when she needs one in the future. I look forward to working with the student again on Thursday."
"The student and I reviewed her spelling words for this week, practiced her handwriting in her workbook, and read from her Pirates book (Level N) together. She seemed to be more interested in this book, as it had more action and dialogue."
