Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The focus of today's session with the student included practice with identifying fractions numerically and verbally. He also worked with decimals - a concept with which he his not comfortable. I also introduced a logic game to the student - an activity to improve focus and attention. I hope to also use the activity to create incentives for him to focus during sessions. The next session is on Saturday at 5:30pm."
"General Chemistry. Covered hybridization, Hess's law, polyatomic ions, and went through an overview of the rest of the semester's topics. Additionally, discussed study strategies, and goal setting. Reviewed topics that would be covered on the final. Discussed strengths and weaknesses."
"The student and I began with some alphabetical order practice; she did a great job remembering how to put words in alphabetical order even though we haven't done that for a while. We then worked on telling the time for a while, practicing identifying time down to the minute. She did a really great job, even identifying odd times like 10:56, etc. We then practiced identifying dates on the April calendar, and finished with some multiplication review (practicing the 3 facts)."
"The student and I looked at three episodes of his French show for homework. We picked out phrases and wrote them down. Afterwards, we worked on the audio cassettes and their accompanying workbook with a lesson that works on "I like ." We caught up to where he left off last week and went a bit further. We worked on the audio cassettes and workbook and went over what we had done last week. He was able to work very in-depth and maintain his concentration and interest. Afterwards, we worked on the online game in French."
"Today, the student and I went over practice problems. The first part of the session we focused on graphing equations ranging from lines to quadratics to absolute values. Following this, we did a section on solving a system of equations."
"We focused closely on Italy and German unification tonight. The student had mentioned she was having a hard time understanding these revolutionary movements, so we spent a lot of time going over specific players in the movements to give her a better idea of how and why things occurred. She left feeling much more confident in the material."
