"The student did a stellar job on her practice test today! We looked over her score report and found that, in most sections, she missed under 3 questions, and in some she didn't miss any at all. The number and types of questions skipped looked just right for her and she even performed better in some areas than I've ever seen her do. Before reviewing her strategies for all sections and reminding her about particulars she should look out for, we worked a couple critical reading passages and a variety of math problems I self-selected to challenge her. She has been preparing for this test for so long and shown incredible improvement along the way. I know she will feel prepared and confident when she sits down to take the test on Wednesday. I have so enjoyed working with her and look forward to hearing about how the test went and finding out her scores!"
"Today, the student and I finished going over the MCAT Physics section. The last two chapters were over atomic and nuclear phenomenon. In particular, we discussed Bohr€™s hydrogen model, absorption/emission of photons to change hydrogen electron€™s orbital level, photoelectric effect, nuclear fusion/fission, alpha decay, beta decay, gamma decay, electron capture, and more. We started going over Organic Chemistry from the prep book. Today, we covered isomers. In particular, stereoisomers, chirality, enantiomers, diastereomers, meso compounds, R vs S chirality, optical rotation of stereoisomers, Fischer projections, Newman projections, conformational isomers, chair/boat conformation of cyclohexane, axial/equatorial positions of cyclohexane, and more. This next week, the student will go over Physics practice problems from her textbook and review everything we covered in Organic Chemistry."
"Computer Science. Reviewed polymorphism, inheritance, and array lists. Went through a practice test in review book. Had some trouble with compareTo method."
"This was just a continuation of the work we began on Thursday. We worked through I believe 3 chapters in his book which involved proving things about quadrilaterals, triangles and lines. There are a lot of theorems and results that are required to do these problems and it's really not worth memorizing them so I'm trying to build up a 'geometric intuition' by asking him to draw pictures and come up with counter examples."
"The first hour, I worked with the Student A in long division with remainders. She understands the concepts and uses proper steps, lines up numbers properly, and uses some strategies. Currently, our main focus will be memorizing multiplication facts for 6, 7, and 8. With Student B, there are several things that need to be worked on including strategies for word problems, comprehension, and how to properly line up various place values."
"Reviewed terms of advice. Practiced usage of "Que debo hacer..." (What should I do?) "Debes..." (You should), "Tienes que" (You have to), and "Hay que..." (One has to...). Practiced section vocabulary for vocabulary quiz."
"Topics Covered: semester overview from Introduction to Limits through Integration of Trigonometric Functions, test-taking strategy. Progress Achieved: the student is more comfortable with the material for her semester exam after an overview. She understands "how" to take her test in order to most effectively manage her time."
"Today the student and I went over the material she is going to use on her next oral dialogue presentation in Spanish class. For her presentation, she put together a series of questions and answers using the vocabulary and verbs in the current chapter about clothes, pricing, shopping and purchasing. The student was careful to use correct adjectives and verb tenses where appropriate. She is using both present and past tense verbs. We went over the various dialogues in the textbook chapter, as well as all vocabulary. The student also practiced pronunciation."
"The student and I reviewed for his upcoming test on polynomial functions. We went over the rational zeros test in detail and reviewed the different forms of polynomial division including long division and synthetic division."
"Tonight was the student's final session with me in preparation for his SAT. We reviewed vocabulary and then spent most of our time together on geometry and associated strategies. He scored very high on his previous math test, leaving me to believe that his studying has paid off."
"The student and I went over her assigned homework. She only missed three math questions in the section we did as homework (#19 - 60)! She did smashingly on the reading portion as well, only missing four questions. We will meet only once more before her test, so I assigned the rest of test four as practice."
"This session revolved around working with the practice test, which dealt with recognizing and utilizing different organic chemistry reaction. Because this part of organic chemistry involves more memorization than an actual understanding of the material, he and I discussed certain strategies he can use to better prepare himself for the exam, such as making note cards to remember all the different reactions. I have no concerns regarding this session."
