Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was our final meeting before the test, and we spent most of our time looking over questions the student had missed on a practice test that he recently took. He did well on this most recent test, and the mistakes he made were not difficult to remedy. We went over a few concepts related to parallel lines and triangles that he was a bit shaky on, and did a few more problems together to make sure he was good to go."
"She did a section of critical reading practice, which we briefly reviewed together. We spent most of the session talking about different tactics for solving math questions using diagrams instead of solving using "regular" math. We also worked through some passage-based reading together to reinforce the importance of thinking about an answer before reading multiple choice solutions. She is optimistic that she will be able to complete more of the diagnostic for our next session."
"For our last day of test prep, I had the student complete two full-length Writing & Critical Reading sections. We then dissected each question, and examined all the answers in order to identify the underlying patterns that formulate the question. I urged her to complete at least one more full test in preparation for her June 7 test date."
"The student did very well on her homework, so I think the strategies I gave her have helped. After going over the few problems she had missed on SAT Writing, we focused on SAT Math for the remainder of the session. Exposing her to as many different math problems as possible should help her considerably."
"We practiced skills for each subject area, especially math and reading. When we reach a new concept, we watched a video and did practice problems. He shows good progress with pacing on the test."
"We spent our entire session on the math portion of the exam. He had done some homework, so we checked that first. He had a few simple concerns mainly with trig. So, we went over those and made sure he understood what he needed to know in order to be able to successfully complete those type of problems on the test. He did another practice session and we went over that as well. Once he has an idea how he is to begin the problem, he can do it quite well. Best of luck on the exam!"
"Did a two hour review session for the test. Covered the major components of nearly every chapter on the test. Primarily discussed concepts for the molecular biology. Addressed test taking techniques. Homework assigned : to review brute memorization terms that frequently appear on the test."
"Her session went well today. We worked primarily on mathematics and English. Going forward, we will continue to work on science, math, and reading (her homework assignment was to complete the math section). I look forward to the next session together."
"I assessed the student's test taking style and went over general SAT strategies with her. We discussed what she was having trouble with (reading comprehension) and what she wanted to work on. She suggested going over Latin roots to help with vocabulary; I will provide her a list by our next session. This first session was mainly a basic introduction to each other and to test taking strategies."
"The student and I looked over the content of the ACT Math section today; she proved to be a very quick mathematics student. We also examined the Reading section, even though she did well on it during her last test, to keep those skills honed, and assigned her a practice essay for tomorrow."
"We began with a formal lesson on complex numbers and how they can be represented in polar coordinates. We then completed the practice exam that we began during our last session. The student has improved significantly during our time together. We have filled some of the gaps in her knowledge, and she has developed a more powerful mathematical intuition that helps her adjust to solve problems she has not encountered before. These skills will help her perform well on the subject test and in her upcoming college career."
"She did one part of a practice English test. Also I reviewed her practice essays which have been steadily improving week by week. She is now going to focus on creating new paragraphs as her thoughts change."
