Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I met for our final session of SAT tutoring. In this session we did some final practice for the test. We did practice sections from all three parts of the test. This included working on grid-in math problems and paragraph correction grammar questions. Overall he has shown a great deal of improvement in the short time we have worked together."
"We looked over problems in the student's math workbook as well as various general test-taking strategies. We reviewed geometry, trig, factoring, and logic problems. Overall, the student seems well-prepared for the SAT II."
"Tutor covered the questions that students had trouble understanding from Test 3 of the test. Student was able to grasp concepts after explanation. Tutor also went over test taking strategies so to better prepare student for the time constraints."
"For this lesson - the student and I focused on working through the questions for efficiently. I showed her in more detail how to effectively eliminate answer choices in both sentence completion and passage based questions. We also briefly went over grammar."
"The student worked through several worksheets on: thermodynamics, reaction rates, polyatomic ions, naming compounds, acids and bases, and definitions of terms for the subject test in chemistry. We then reviewed the practice test he had completed and addressed his questions. I left him with extra reading on laboratory techniques, a very small section covered on the test."
"The student and I went over chemistry and U.S. History. I assigned her to finish reading the book and to take notes on everything she read."
"On Thursday we did one last short session to review for the subject test. We reviewed test-taking strategies, looked over questions the student had missed on other practice tests, and did some quick question sets from another practice test to make sure she was warmed up for the test. I advised her to study a little bit more on Friday, but to make sure that she relaxed her brain and got plenty of rest before test day."
"The student and I met for our final session before his exam. He seems to be confident with the material and I feel he will do very well. He and I reviewed some practice work that he had done prior to our meeting and he hardly got any of the review questions wrong."
"I decided to challenge the student by cherry-picking the most difficult math questions I could find in the entire book. She performed admirably and has a strong understanding of almost all the concepts. She is also quite test savvy, so I expect a great performance from her on the actual test. She is also prepared for the writing section. She has a firm grasp of all the grammar rules, so I advised her to focus on the grammatical (as opposed to stylistic) elements of the sentences when revising sentences/identifying errors. I also asked her to choose a side on the essay and defend it with several examples, as opposed to arguing both sides. She is curious and loves to learn so it was great to work with her."
"During this session we solved questions from a booklet that the student's professor had provided him with. These questions covered the topics of linear motion and energetics of motion. We reviewed the formulas involved in linear motion and how these formulas can be applied in addition to the units used for the different parameters involved. We also reviewed the concepts of kinetic energy, gravitational potential energy, and work and related the three to each other. He performed very well overall and solved almost all of the questions correctly."
"The student's math performance is exceedingly impressive. He will most surely improve upon his original scores. In addition, we did several reading sections, which he scored very well on. For an assignment, I asked him to finish the reading sections we started."
"The student and I began our 4-day SAT crash course with Reading. I taught her several useful strategies for the sentence completion questions. We then moved on to passage-based reading, which required her to use what I call "directed skimming" to complete the passages in enough time."
