Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I talked about organizing his binder today. We reviewed some of our old study skills concepts (goal setting, learning styles, backwards planning) and spent some time reviewing math concepts like finding angles on vertical angles and creating equations from word problems. Lastly, we ran lines for his upcoming play. He shared that he received an 86 on his last Language Arts quiz, which is a win. The student seems compliant but not joyful when it comes to his weekly planner. We will continue working on making this a necessary and worthwhile habit!"
"We had a great session today! Student #1 completed his math worksheet for the day (including a bonus question at the end), and we studied for his social studies test together. Student #2 only had to study for her spelling, so we did that. I look forward to seeing them both after spring break!"
"We worked primarily with language arts, grammar, and mathematics. The activities were centered on conjunctions and prepositions, while the Math was mainly conversion work dealing with inches, feet, yards, miles, etc. The student's attitude grew more positive as the student grew more comfortable working with me. I left the student with a conversion sheet that we made together, such as showing them 1 yard= 36 inches, 1 yard= 3 feet, 1 foot= 12 inches, etc. We worked together on a lot of homework and material he was behind on, but I am unsure he would be able to do the material without me to guide him through the steps."
"The student and I reviewed the material that he would need to study for his upcoming math test. We also drafted a plan so he could finish his history of America's propaganda poster."
"Today the student and I spoke about his history in college and what he hopes to accomplish through our tutoring session. We discussed optimal note taking methods for his learning style, and setting up a studying schedule before the Summer session starts. He told me about the classes that he is enrolled in for the Summer and Fall, and what strategies he will need to focus on. It was a pleasure meeting him, and I look forward to working with him."
"Today I spent some time with the student going over his weekly schedule and discussing how he planned to meet his assignments and prep for his upcoming quiz(s) and tests. We added all of this information to his online weekly calendar that I have built for him."
"The student and I continued 'taking the long view', reviewing SAT needs and score ranges. We were also able to confirm a new study plan for her History exam that should have her complete all of the study-guide sections."
"Today we reviewed the student's study schedule and agenda pages for the past and current week. We also spent 45 mins working on the Math topic of Transformation, Reflection, Slide, and Rotations. We reviewed and edited his class notes and created index cards to accompany his class notes."
"During this session, the student and I focused on earth science. We completed a presentation on famous faults as well as a lab and a quiz. We began to work on studying and preparing for his upcoming science exam. All of the work he turned in was scored as A's. Student continues to work very hard."
"During this tutoring session, the student completed some math work. In order to ensure that she learned the materials, I required her to review the video presentations that were provided by her teacher, and she subsequently completed the corresponding math worksheets."
"We went through some loose papers and decided what was worth keeping and throwing away. We then worked on her incentive system and evaluated how successful she was using her system this past week. So far she is off to a good start. She received almost full tickets and is starting the quarter with mostly As. She recently cleaned out her room to prepare for the next phase of organization which is some sort of board or calendar to keep track of important happenings. We finished the session by discussing the application essay she is writing for a summer program and how best to organize it."
"The student and I met today and discussed what he has accomplished over the past two weeks. He is still currently waiting for the results of his management test that he took during the first week back from spring break. He also has a finite math exam tomorrow, which he feels confident about. He sent out his first email for his e-correspondence project today, and I have urged him to try and make more progress with this project by the time of our next session in two weeks."
