Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today we read a passage and worked on reading comprehension questions along with some short responses. We reviewed some reading comprehension strategies, such as going back to the passage to underline text evidence. I then reviewed multiplication facts with him, and we did some word problems and division problems to build fluency is basic math facts. Next week we will practice for the state wide exams and continue to build on multiplication facts every week."
"We worked on a spelling words packet the student had today. We also did a worksheet of fairly complex math problems he was assigned for homework. He had an excellent day at school today and was very focused during the session this afternoon."
"I worked with both students today. We met at the library, and things went very well! Student 1 made great progress with her multiplication--I showed her a new method of breaking problems down, and it seemed to be very effective for her. By the end of the time that we'd worked together, she did several problems in a row on her own, with almost no errors. Student 2 did some math while she waited as I worked with her sister, and she also made good progress on reading--she learned the words fierce and field. She has work yet to be done and can continue to practice sounding words out as she reads on her own. I also did some reading work with Student 1 and showed her a trick for her reading comprehension homework--if she can find a word in the question sentence and match it with the passage above, that will give her a clue as to what the answer to the question should be. She also needs to keep practicing sounding words out and pushing herself to learn new words regularly. All in all, it was a great first session."
